| DETROIT METAL CITY NIGHT 4/8/09 |
GO TO DMC! Wednesday, April 8th, we will be premiering the live action film adaptation of the manga/OAV series Detroit Metal City in the UC upstairs Lone Star Room. Detroit Metal City is a Japanese thrash metal parody that pulls no punches. We will be showing our favorite episodes from the 12 episode anime OAV from 6pm-8pm as an introduction to the style, character, and plot of Detroit Metal City. Immediately following this, at 8pm, we will premier the live action film. The live action film stars Ken’ichi Matsuyama (“L” from the Death Note live action films) as Soichi Negishi, a Swedish pop loving Japanese youth who moves from the country to Tokyo in search of his pop stardom dream only to end up in the most popular death metal band in Japan as Johannes Krauser II. The story is a hilarious parody of thrash metal in the vein of Metalocolypse and Spinal Tap, and as such contains a fair bit of profanity and dark humor, all in the spirit of parody and satire, but if you are sensitive be warned that this is an R rated film. Even so, this series has gained great success in Japan and the live action adaptation has been getting massive laughs and great reception here in America as it has been shopped around different film festivals. If you are interested come down and check out a different kind of anime, as we delve into the world of Detroit Metal City.
P.S. Gene Simmons, of Kiss fame, makes an appearance in the film, an obvious nod to the blatant inspiration Kiss has had on the series as evident in the name.

| END OF SEMESTER PARTY 4/17/09 |
It’s that time again. The annual end of semester party is yet again upon us. This semester the party will be held on April 17th from 7pm-midnight in the Mediterranean room in the UC underground. We will have familiar ANK games like Anime Name That Tune, and Anime Jeopardy, as well as our annual auction and raffle that we all look forward to. Refreshments will be brought and the projector will be in constant use, either for video games or movies. Feel free to bring game systems, video games, board games, and televisions for more fun. We are also constantly looking for donations of stuff to put into the auction and raffle. Any and all donations and party games brought to the party will be given extra points toward the auction and raffle, for extra incentive. Of course, this is the spring semester, so the most important portion of the evening will of course be the elections for officers for next years administration. All are welcome to come to the party but only members will be allowed to vote for the officers. To review membership qualifications please check our membership section. It should promise to be a fun and hectic evening if previous years are any indication. :)
